A sleigh bed is a frame defined by its scrolled, curved headboard and footboard a 19th-century silhouette that still anchors a bedroom beautifully today. At Zenna Beds, we design our sleigh beds in the UK, upholster them by hand, and keep the range tight on purpose. Three frames, nine colourways, no filler. Sleigh beds first appeared in early 19th-century France, popularised during the Napoleonic era and inspired even further back by Roman and Greek lounging beds. That’s almost 200 years of staying in fashion, which honestly says it all. Today’s UK sleigh beds keep the curve but ditch the heavy carved oak modern frames are foam-padded and upholstered, lighter on the eye and easier in real bedrooms.

If you'd rather skip the curve altogether and lean into hidden storage, our divan and ottoman beds are the better fit.
Short answer, yes, but measure first. Standard UK sizes apply (single 3ft, double 4ft 6, king 5ft), and our sleigh frames sit on a slatted base.
The only catch: the scrolled foot end adds roughly 10–15cm of extra length compared to a flat-footboard frame. In box rooms and smaller doubles, that still works, you just don’t want the bed pressed up against a radiator. For genuinely tight spaces, our single beds range is the smarter call.
Whichever you pick, keep the bedding simple. The bed’s already the focal point.
