How Does a Gas Lift Ottoman Actually Work?

Two gas pistons (think car-boot struts) sit on either side of the base. You pull the strap or handle at the foot or the side, depending on the design, and the pistons take the weight of the mattress as it lifts. It holds open on its own, so you’ve got both hands free. No spring noise, no straining your back, no mattress flopping shut. When pistons eventually wear, which takes years, they’re easy to replace.

How Much Storage Are You Actually Getting?

A double ottoman fits roughly: two duvets, six pillows, a suitcase, off-season clothing, and still leaves room. A king or super king swallows considerably more of the proper “I don’t need a wardrobe extension” territory. That’s the real selling point.
