How Drawer Storage Actually Works

Each drawer sits inside the divan base, riding on smooth glides that pull out when you need them. Fast to open, quiet to close. Unlike an ottoman bed (which lifts the whole mattress on gas pistons), drawer storage is built for the things you grab every day pyjamas, spare bedding, kids’ essentials, whatever. The catch you need clearance beside or in front of the bed to pull the drawers fully open. Roughly 50–60cm of side clearance is the rule of thumb. Worth measuring before you order.

2 Drawers or 4? Pick by Your Room, Not Your Wishlist

  • 2-drawer setup — drawers on one side only. Best if your bed sits with one side against a wall, against a wardrobe, or under a window. Most British box rooms work better with 2 drawers, honestly.
  • 4-drawer setup — two on each side. Doubles your storage but needs clearance on both sides. Ideal for master bedrooms with floor space to spare.
  • If you're not sure, 2 drawers + 1 foot-end drawer is often the sensible middle ground when available — flexibility without the floor-space tax.

How much side clearance do I need to open the drawers?

About 50–60cm beside the bed. If you’ve got narrow gaps either side, consider 2 drawers on the more accessible side only.
The drawers themselves last for years; the glides are the part that occasionally needs attention. Easy to maintain — just keep them clean and don’t overload them.
